Little Tikes Folding Chair

2013

While working at Hencil we were asked by Little Tikes to design a replacement to a tired line in their current product offering. The main goal was to create a fun, unique chair for kids that would take up less retail space than the product it was replacing.

As we began researching the landscape of childrens’ furniture, we made the decision to revive the ‘classic’ Little Tikes aesthetic by looking to products like the iconic Cozy Coup, Piggy Bank, and Slide. These products are instantly recognizable because of their friendly forms, drawing from simple shapes and primary colors

After choosing an overall direction, we built multiple full scale working prototypes of differing proportions. We then brought in a range of 4-6 year olds, observing their behaviors and preferences.
